what is one drawback of a field experiment?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have any thoughts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought maybe that its hard to determine the cause and effect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

True, but I think there are better examples. Think about the hardships of doing something in a desert or in extreme cold, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, do you think it would be easy to perform an experiment in the freezing cold? What about trying to keep everything the same for each part of the experiment when you are outside with weather changes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it would be difficult, right? so it cant be controlled?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, it makes it much harder and introduces new sources of error.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

At the very least, I mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most likely your instructor is looking for something like: " It would be impossible to control all the possible variables that might affect your results when you are outside in the field". The main drawback to field work is that you can't really do controlled experiments.
