I think this is right but I am not sure So sorry if I get it wrong. Saint Benedict is given that title for his writings aimed at regulating the lives of his own monks in Italy during the 6th century. This Regula formed the basis for all European monasticism throughout the medieval period and beyond; it is still used today.
