what is the relationship between the codons and anticodons and how is this relationship important

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A codon is the three nucleotide sequence on a mRNA molecule that corresponds to a particular amino acid that will end up in the polypeptide produced by translation of the mRNA. An anticodon in the three nucleotide sequence on the tRNA that will bring the correct amino acid into the ribosome to be added to the growing polypeptide chain. So the codon and the anticodon match each other to make sure the correct amino acid is added to the polypeptide. Their nucleotide sequences match each other in a complementary way.
