URGENT HELP! FAN + METAL The area of a rectangle is x^3+3x^2+8x+24. If the length is x+ 3, what is the expression for the width?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area = length x width so, you have the area and the length

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the metal part is good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if we do area/length we will get width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you teach me step by step? that's what i'm having trouble with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes one moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I rhink @MathMan77 has this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so this is pretty complex and hard to explain hehe, i did a quick google and this website shows simplifying this step by step http://www.tiger-algebra.com/drill/x3-3x2_8x-24/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is just volume @MathMan77

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at the factoring section you need to factor this and divide the x+3 out of it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x3-3x2+8x-24 Final result : (x2 + 8) • (x - 3) this is the important part from the site

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that will leave you with the width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the site says how do we get from this x3-3x2+8x-24 Final result : this (x2 + 8) • (x - 3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well that may be incorrect a second look revealed that the signs are switched it has some negatives that are positives

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but should show you how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first of all area cant be described as x^3 , so you should have told @daisysosa512 that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now u have to do is divide this (x2 + 8) • (x - 3) by (x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and u get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BPD is correct this question dosent really make sense...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i missed that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its (x^2 + 8) though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much! can you help me with this one too? if no then i understand (: The length of a box is 5 more than the width and the height is 2 less than the width. If thevolume is equal to 150 cubic feet, what are the measurements for each side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure daisy, there is an easy way to write these out!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think @Mathman77 can help
