PLEASE HELP!!!!! WILL GIVE MEDAL!!!!!!! Sherry missed the lesson on normal distribution and needs to do her homework. Explain to Sherry how to use the mean and standard deviation of a normal distribution to determine the top 7% of the population.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so im assuming you are familiar with z - scores

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry feel asleep there, im just ready to finish this. @MathMan77

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*fell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you are familiar with z scores?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a little

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well basically they are a way to determine the percent tile of somone within a sample/population

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example if std dev = 5 mean = 10 a z score of 1.5 = 17.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so there is a specific z score that represents 7 percent do u have the table?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea,one sec.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so 93% of students are to the left of 1.48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you see that on your table?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great so if I was explaining this I would say you take the mean and add the std dev*z-score(1.48) and anyone greater then that number would be in the top 7 percent of that normal population

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i makes a lot of sense!!!! Could u keep working it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@MathMan77

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what more do you need?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you didnt really give me numbers just says to explain how to find top 7 percent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mean of normal pop + std dev of normal pop x z - score(1.48) >= answer is in top 7 percent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry, i didnt know that it was so simple.Thank you for all ur help, now i can sleep in peace. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

<=*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha of course!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good night im hitten the hay to :)
