will give medal Why radioisotopes are also called unstable?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Radioisotopes are unstable because they do not have the correct ratio, which varies element to element, of protons and neutrons to create a strong enough binding force to hold the nucleus together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And that's why they have half lives, the time taken for the radioactivity of a specified isotope to fall to half its original value

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

Radioisotopes, as the name suggests, is radioactive. The radioactivity arises from the decay of the isotope. So a pure sample of a particular radioisotope will become more and more unpure because some of the isotope will be transformed to another isotope/elemnt. Therefore, it is unstable.
