Write an equation of a line perpendicular to line CD below in slope-intercept form that passes through the point (−1, 6). Line CD is shown. C is at 1, 1. D is at 3, 5. y = −0.5x − 5.5 y = −0.5x + 5.5 y = 2x + 13 y = 2x − 13
I know it can't be C or D because the slope is going to be opposite so I think its A
Line CD is shown. C is at 1, 1. D is at 3, 5. Did you calculate the slope for this using the slope formula?
No but i know that perpendicular lines have opposite slopes and the line given has a slope of 2
Correct. So the slope of the perpendicular line must be -0.5
A and B has the same slope. That is because we are not done yet. Member, you can use the point slope formula y-y1=m(x-x1) and plug in the slope -0.5 and the given points You will come up with the correct equation of the line.
@Zale101 thank you so much do you think you could help me with another?
Post it and show me the work you have done.
and no problem :)
For the line segment whose endpoints are X(1, 2) and Y(6, 7), find the x value for the point located 1 over 3 the distance from X to Y. 3.5 3.3 2.7 2.4
I think it is 3.3 @Zale101
Can you show me on how you got 3.3?
Im not very sure i just kind of guesstimated
Did you construct the line for XY?
Yes i did
line segment whose endpoints are X(1, 2) and Y(6, 7). They gave you two points, you can easily construct a line for it.
Can i see it.
