OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the distance between points (4, −7) and (−5, 9)? Round to the nearest tenth of a unit. ____ units

OpenStudy (ciarán95):

To solve this problem, we're going to need to know the appropriate distance, or Euclidean distance, formula: \[d =\sqrt{(x _{2}- x _{1})^{2} + (y _{2} - y _{1})^{2}}\] So, given any two-dimensional points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), we can plug in the appropriate values an caluclate the distance d (using a caluclator, from which you can round appropriately). It does not matter which of the pairs of the points give in the question you assign to (x1, y1) or (x2, y2). Good luck! :)
