Think about the different theories proposed by early political geographers. 1. Which of the three theories do you think is most persuasive? What examples from history or current events would support the theory? 2. What has changed in the world since these theories were first developed that might minimize the impact of location as a source of power? 3. Which do you think has more influence on a state’s power: resources, land size, or location? Explain.

It's okay

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

It's cool you can be honest with me ^_^ I'll help anyways

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

What do you mean

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

Am I asking for a direct answer?

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

no xD just since ur in a hurry

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Think this will help you: One of the main scholars in the fields of early cultural evolution was Edward Tylor. Living from 1832 to 1917, Tylor believed that cultures move through three definite stages of progression, savagery, barbarism, and civilization. Sort of like a man climbing up a ladder, he asserted all societies climb up these three stages of cultural evolution; some are just simply further along in the climb than others. Adding to his rather controversial theory, Tylor asserted that the cultures he deemed savage continued to resemble the ancient past because they simply hadn't figured out how to manipulate their environment. When they gained the know-how to do this, they too would progress. Unfortunately, his use of the words savage and barbarism served to add to the cultural superiority that was already all too prevalent among the modernized West.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

It wouldn't be horrible if you gave me one haha but I don't mind just getting help either. It's up to you

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

What you think about the article I posted?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I'm not sure because I don't even know what three theories they are asking about

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Ikr I have so many.

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Other 3 theories I found "They are primitive communism, or group ownership, to feudalism, or power based on land ownership, to eventually capitalism, or the free market economy."

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

Social contract theory is one

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

checking the lesson to see what they said

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

no wait

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

heartland, rimland, containment, and domino are the theories they are talking about

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

but it says three

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I know we can choose three out of those four

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

omg I keep saying the wrong ones

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

Sorryyyyyyy

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

lol it's cool

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

It says

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

here are three main categories of political organization: federal, confederation, and unitary. Within these three categories, there are many variations.

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

*There

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Do you know the definition for those?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

here you know what

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

Let's do a different one

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

I can do that one by myself

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

1. In this lesson, you were introduced to the quote “The sun never sets on the British Empire.” Do you think that one of today’s states could establish a vast empire like the British created in the 19th and 20th centuries? Support your response by identifying at least three factors in today’s world that would either allow or prevent a modern-day imperialist movement that rivals 19th and 20thcentury imperialism. Remember to support your ideas with factual evidence. 2. Imagine that a political geographer makes the following remark: “Imperialism is a positive force.” How would you respond to this comment? Be sure to approach this question from a human geographer’s perspective and support your ideas with factual evidence.

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

Ok so you got 1 and 2 right?

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

I can do number 3

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

yeah

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

Wait what? Number 3?

OpenStudy (love_to_love_you):

Hold on

OpenStudy (just_one_last_goodbye):

number 3 3. Which do you think has more influence on a state’s power: resources, land size, or location? Explain.
