how do you find the area of a trapezoid? when i have to find the height and gives me an angle (60) ~To the nearest tenth, height of trapezoid ~Length of the other base ~area

OpenStudy (amistre64):

take the average base and then work it like a rectangle if fact, they should just teach a generalized form of it to start with.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there sees to be ore to this than what is posted. can you draw or attach a picture?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

mmm, m key seems to be giving me an issue ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if all you have is an angle, then you cant determine much else.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do you know about trig?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they equal 180

OpenStudy (amistre64):

trigonometry, you either need to know some trig, or some thing about special triangles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im in geometry

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes you are, and this requires either a knowledge of trig, or knowing something about a triangle that has a 60 degree angle. either way its going to get pythaggy

OpenStudy (amistre64):

any idea what sort of triangle we can work with that has a 60 degree angle?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

something equilateral maybe?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe that helps more??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its the same information, im trying to get you to consider how we can use an equilateral triangle to help us define the height and part of the base.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you agree that an equilateral has 3 equal angles of 60, and 3 equal sides?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

|dw:1432871987995:dw| the height splits the base in half, how do we use the pythag thrm to find the height?
