The yearly cost in dollars, y, at a video game arcade based on total game tokens purchased, x, is y =1/10 x + 60 for a member and y = 1/5x for a nonmember. Explain how the graph of a nonmember’s yearly cost will differ from the graph of a member’s yearly cost.

Maybe putting the functions like this will make it clearer. y = .1x +60 (member) y= .2x (non-member)

Note that for a non member when x = 0 so does y, in other words there is no cost for zero non-members playing. But, for members even when there are 0 tokens, y = $60 or still a cost.

Both functions are line functions, with the first a slope of .1 and an intercept of 60. the second a line with a slope of .2 and a intercept of 0.

The most striking thing that whether a member plays (puts in tokens) are not there is a cost. Starting at $60.00 and increasing 20 cents per token played.

For non-members they only cost is 10 cents per token played........makes you wonder why they would want members??
