It is evident that this question is about right angle triangles, and in particular Pythagoras. The equation \[a ^{2} = b ^{2} + c ^{2}\] is the Pythagoras equation If you are not familiar with this then you are not ready to try this question. You need ot go back to your books or class or read online until you know wha tth at equation means then come back and ask for help here. I'm afraid there is always a minimum background level of skills required before it is sensible to attempt a given question
