someone help me understand this :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tangent of any angle of a right angled triangle = height of that triangle/base of that triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for your diagram height = 27500 base = 5000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i got that. i just dont understand the last step :( how did they get that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im using that as an example for a question my test i just got so confused at the last part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

on my**

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

That is where you take the inverse tangent function of that whole expression \[\large tan(x) = 5.5 \rightarrow x = tan^{-1}(5.5)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay. can i put the question from my test on here and ill walk through the steps and you tell me if im the right track or not?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

It will work like that with all your trig functions If \(\large sin(x) = \text{something}\rightarrow x = \sin^{-1}(\text{something})\) If \(\large cos(x) = \text{something}\rightarrow x = \cos^{-1}(\text{something})\) If \(\large tan(x) = \text{something}\rightarrow x = \tan^{-1}(\text{something})\)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

And yeah of course!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i used sin for this one

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and i got b

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

And you would be correct again :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!! thank you so much :D

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Not a problem! Good luck on the rest of your test :D
