PLEASE HELP: Solve for x: −2x − 4 > 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would want to get x by itself to solve for x. To do this, you'd add 4 to both sides. So it would become -2x> 12. Then divide by -2. When you divide by a negative on an inequality , the sign flips. So > would become <. x<-6. You can prove this because less than a negative number, such as -6, would be farther back on the negative line. So less than -6 would be -7, or -8, and so on. You can plug -7 in and it becomes 10>8, which is true.
