PLZ HELP , NO DIRECT ANSWERS PLZ. State whether either extreme in the data set is an outlier. A. The upper extreme is an outlier. B. Neither extreme is an outlier. C. Both extremes are outliers. D. The lower extreme is an outlier.
@shilo120
do you have a rule for determining outliers?
i would say C
if i recall these questions from previous encounters Q1 to Q3 is 50% of the data, so its range is relevant. Q1 - (IQR)/2 would define the lowest non outlier Q3 + (IQR)/2 would define the highest non outlier
this question isnt mine
What is the IQR?
25?
22
oh
68 to 90 is 22
so 68-11 is our lowest non outlier limit 90+11 is our highest non outlier limit assuming you go by the IQR rule for outliers
68-11=57 & 90+11=101
good, and as we can see the entire box plot is within 57 to 101, so what is our conclusion?
B?
i would go with B as well, and this link might provide a better overview of what i was trying to recall ... just in case i made some sort of error. http://www.mathwords.com/o/outlier.htm
ok TY. ^_^
the link says use 1.5(IQR) which is greater then (IQR)/2 ... so we should be fine regardelss :)
