OpenStudy (18jonea):

Which of the following is an example of two organisms with homologous structures? the wings of bats and the wings of flies the wings of hawks and the wings of butterflies human hands and bat wings the wings of birds and the wings of flies @sikinder

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Hi @18jonea ! Do u know what homologous structures mean?

OpenStudy (18jonea):

no not really @Abhisar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@18jonea, A homologous structure, to simplify, is a structure, like an organ or bone, that two or more organisms both have. These structures may look different on the outside and do different things, but they have the same basic skeletal structure, and come from the same ancestor (like a mammal or insect or amphibian.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

With this being said, which two animals in your answer choices 1) share one common organ or bone? (This organ or bone could have a different function in each organism) 2) come from the same ancestor (mammal insect amphibian bird etc..)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd flip your 1 and 2. Homologous traits are traits that were in the ancestor of a set of species and may appear the exact same in the set of species or have been modified to perform different jobs but are still the same "ancestral" part.

Ah ok, I see now, thanks for the clarification! Hope we helped @18jonea
