A homologous structure, to simplify, is a structure, like an organ or bone, that two or more organisms both have. These structures may look different on the outside and do different things, but they have the same basic skeletal structure, and come from the same ancestor (like a mammal or insect or amphibian.)

I'd flip your 1 and 2. Homologous traits are traits that were in the ancestor of a set of species and may appear the exact same in the set of species or have been modified to perform different jobs but are still the same "ancestral" part.
