PLZ HELP :) GENERAL QUESTION ARE INSTANTANEOUS RATE OF REACTION AND AVERAGE RATE OF REACTION THE SAME? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN SOLVING THEM. I AM REALLY CONFUSED

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would believe they are not the same. but im not the best at chemistry so I cant really answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are not the same. If you plot a graph of the concentration of a reactant (or product) vs time, the instantaneous rate at time tis the slope of the TANGENT to the curve at time t. The average rate between times t1 and t2 is the slope of the SECANT from time t1 to time t2.
