A student is trying to solve the system of two equations given below: Equation P: y + z = 6 Equation Q: 5y + 9z = 1 Which of the following is a possible step used in eliminating the y-term? (y + z = 6) ⋅ 9 (y + z = 6) ⋅ −5 (5y + 9z = 1) ⋅ 9 (5y + 9z = 1) ⋅ 5

i gave you a medal

geerky42 (geerky42):

You want to eliminate y terms, so you would want coefficient of y to be same, so you can just subtract equations there, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was thinking B or C

alisurfcat i gave you a medal

geerky42 (geerky42):

So for first equation, coefficient of y is 1. In second equation, it is 5. So you want to multiply first equation by 5 so you can subtract. (Or -5 then add)

geerky42 (geerky42):

Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

she right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so, so it will be B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

thanks
