The family spent $53.74 on gas. Next month, the price is predicted to increase 12%. How much should the family expect to pay for gas next month?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you would multiply $53.74 by 12% or .12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just dont know how to even solve for this I know how to get e precentage but not the other way around please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6.4488

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then with that answer at it to the add it on to the $53.74

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60.1888

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good Job. So the family will expect to pay $60.18 for gas next time.

You can solve this problem two ways. 1. Find 12% of $53.74, then add that dollar amount to $53.74 2. Realize that if the price goes up by 12%, the new price will be 112% of $53.74, so just find 112% of $53.74 Solutions: Method 1. 12% of $53.74 = 12% * $53.74 = 0.12 * $53.74 = $6.45 $53.74 + $6.45 = $60.19 Answer: $60.19 Method 2. 112% of $53.74 = 112% * $53.74 = 1.12 * $53.74 = $60.19 Answer: $60.19

OpenStudy (anonymous):
