OpenStudy (phebe):

ok

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Sorry! I'm looking now.

OpenStudy (phebe):

its okay i was waiting for yah

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Two for the price of one! Any first guesses on the answer choices?

OpenStudy (phebe):

i think 8 is D

OpenStudy (phebe):

AN C FOR 9

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

I definitely agree with C for 9... I'm still thinking about 8.

OpenStudy (phebe):

OK GREAT!

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Do you have a calculator handy? If you do you can plug in sqrt(42) to see what that looks like.

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

As a long way to the answer, here's what I am thinking:

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

rational numbers are fractions... No way is sqrt(42) a fraction, it's decimals don't repeat.

OpenStudy (phebe):

yes i have a calculater

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Because it's decimals don't repeat it is an irrational number for sure.

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Whole numbers are like 1, 2, 3, 4, and have no decimals.... so no to that.

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Integers are just whole numbers that are 0 or negative too, so -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ... so no

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

So, in other words, I think the answer is B. This is an irrational number because the decimals don't repeat.

OpenStudy (phebe):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=sqrt42

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Yep, what a mess... definitely not a nice whole number, natural number, or integer.

OpenStudy (phebe):

so the answer is whut?

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

It is an irrational number. B Irrationals have nonrepeating decimals.

OpenStudy (phebe):

THANKS! WANNA HELP WITH MORE LOL

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

I've actually got to run and grab some lunch... :)

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

But if your questions are still up when I get back, I'll check them out. :) Good luck!

OpenStudy (phebe):

How long will you be gone?

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Probably between half an hour and an hour... around that.

OpenStudy (phebe):

LMAO OKAYZZ WELL THANKS FOR EVERYTHING IF I NEED ANYTHING IMA PM U IGHT

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):
