Question

What do you think about instead of it telling you "2 hours ago" or "yesterday" or "1 year ago" that it instead told you the exact date and time.

Now being an experienced user in the OpenStudy Feedback group, I don't want to hear excuses such as "There might be more lag." What do you think are the pros and cons of this feature?

it does that when zip right past them but it doesnt stay :P how will this benefit OS?

Yeah, I noticed that it will show the time, but then goes away

Besides users asking why all the time messes up, like a comment before it says "a few moments ago" and the comment after it says "2 minutes ago" ;p

Also, it helps you know what date a post was made.

For example, a user tags you 23 hours ago. Was it 23 hours and 29 minutes and got rounded down? Or was it 22 hours 29 minutes and got rounded up? And I was online 22 hours ago and wanted to know when he actually tagged me without having to use inspect element to figure it out.

Im not a big fan of this idea i think they can be improving on other things. However it would be cool!

For example, a 6 month old post could actually be only 5 months and 16 days old or actually 6 months and 14 days old :p

Or a 3 year old post is actually only a 2 year old and 4 month old post :p

Pooja, they can be improving a lot of stuff. This suggestion is basically about improving something already set in place too. And if they aren't improving anything what is the point? We got to keep them busy c:

you right click *on* the "14 minutes ago" thing and the inspect element should land you there

I didn't read everything, but it seems like this would speed up OS since in order to calculate the time ago posted the exact date and time must be evaluated.

I do feel that the system currently does not utilize that method though. So since we have wayyyyy many time zones, it probably works like a stop watch. Every comment starts a new watch that is stuck in code.

You can't use inspect element on the iOS app for OS, nor mac (devices I use).
I think that this idea is truly useful and should be considered.

yea the exact date is great for posts greater than a month old and for posts under a month old they can display the date like they have been doing

The other one is indeed a glitch.

This idea is a bit pointless in my opinion. So, say for example, a user posted something on March 21, 2012 on 7:21pm PST. Do people really need that information? No educational value included, just a date and time. Do users really care about a time a post was made weeks ago? Any filing purposes needed? Nope, in my opinion, unless there is a hidden motive that I do not see.

So this idea is just to keep the devs busy? They seem really busy as it is...

The exact date and time would take 23 seconds for me to implement it into the extension, but personally i think its a tad pointless... i mean sometimes i would like it, but i dunno... up to you...
