So to add or subtract fractions, you should always start by converting them both so they both have the least common denominator. Do you know what that is?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

You are to add 5/8 + 4/5 What is the common denominator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am kind of confused. So wolf. The answer is A right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I find the Common domminator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help I am down to 10 minutes on this quiz

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

It seems you just want an answer? Well think about this: 5/8 AND 4/5 are BOTH bigger than 1/2 so how can adding TWO numbers BOTH of which are bigger than 1/2 equal one half?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

You should NOT ask questions for a quiz in OpenStudy - that's one of the rules.

Not at all, I just need to learn how to do this problem, I have a website that I can basically put the problem in and it will do it for ome but I need to figure it out before I can do that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wolf, this isn't a test. It is online credit recovery, the person who runs it encourages you to look up the answers, I am asking for help on it, not asking for answers.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Okay The lowest common denominator is 40 5/8 = 25/40 4/5 = 32/40 25/40 + 32/40 = 57/40 = 1 + 17/40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I figured it out, all I had to do was add both the fractions and get the answer in simplest form. I got a 90 on the test. Thanks

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Heck, if you have a website, I do too It is here www.1728.com Please visit it - you'll find it helpful Heck, if you want help with yours, just let me know. Could I have your URL?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Okay then
