Two large parallel plates are 2.0 cm apart. The strength of the electric field between them is 100.0 N/C. What is the difference in voltage between the plates?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2.0 V , 0 V , +20 V , or +2.0 V

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.0 * 100 ?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

here we have to apply this vector formula: \[\Large {\mathbf{E}} = - {\text{grad}}\varphi \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

we have to integrate that formula, so we get: \[\Large \Delta \varphi = - Ed\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok! so we get -(-20)?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I got this: \[\Large \Delta \varphi = - Ed = - 100 \times 0.02 = ...volts\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do not know if i did that right... ;/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so we get -2! so -2.0 V is our solutoin! thanks!!:D

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

:)
