Please help I will fan and medal!

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Find the measure of angle x. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth. (please type the numerical answer only)

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

@welshfella Could you help?

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

I have this question and another just like it and then I am finished with my homework.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

sin x = opposite side / hypotenuse = 8 / 17

OpenStudy (welshfella):

SOH-CAH-TOA - have you heard of that memory aid?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

calculate 8/17 then use ur calculator to find the value of angle x enter sin-1 (value of x)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

firrst use ur calculator to find 8/17 also!

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

So when I do 8/17 I get 0.47

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Is that right?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

more accurately its 0.4706

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Then how do I do sin-1 on a calculator?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

now thats the sine of x so to find x you use the sin-1 function on your calculator

OpenStudy (welshfella):

there should be a button for it - you probably have to press the shift key as well - it must be a scientific calculator

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

0.4899?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no - x should be an angle between 20 and 30 degrees

OpenStudy (welshfella):

have you got your calculator set to radians?

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

I'm not sure

OpenStudy (welshfella):

because that would be the value of x in radians

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

I have a scientific calculator, but I don't know how to put in sin-1

OpenStudy (welshfella):

is there a set up key on ur calc?

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

this is the exact calculator i have

OpenStudy (welshfella):

well you must have put sin-1 in correctly or you wouldn't have got 0.4899 which is exactly right in radians.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

press SHIFT SIN-1 then 0.4706

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

28.07?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes thats correct

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

And that would round up to 29, correct?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you need to press the mode button to change rad to deg right?

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Yes I figured out how to do that

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Find the measure of angle y. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth. (please type the numerical answer only)

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

This is my last one

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Would the first one stay 28.07 or would it go up to 29 for my final answer?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

no you need to round to the nearest 1 hundredth - that's 28.073 ---> 28. 07 the second place after the decimal pont is the hundreds so the answer is 28.07 degrees

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Okay :)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

apply SOH-CAH-TOA sin = opposite / hypotenuse cos = adjacent / hypotenuse tan = opposite / adjacent opposite angle y is 5 adjacent to angle y = 14 so which trig ratio , sin cos or tan do we use?

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Tangent

OpenStudy (welshfella):

right! so we have tan y = 5/14 now you can find y in a similar way as for x in last problem this time use tan-1 on ur calc

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

19.651?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

5/14 = 0.35714 enter SHIFT Tan-1 0.35714

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Which would be 19.65

OpenStudy (welshfella):

these are quite easy after you've practiced a few

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yea

OpenStudy (unofficialllyy):

Yeah I think I will get the hang of them. Thank you so much, you were such a big help!

OpenStudy (welshfella):
