A ray in the emission spectrum has a wavelength of 3.10 x 1014 meters. Given that the speed of light is 2.998 x 108 m/s, what is the frequency of the ray?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the equation to work it out but how would i set it up?

rvc (rvc):

okay what is the equation?

rvc (rvc):

\[v=n\lambda \]

rvc (rvc):

v= 2.998 X 10^8 which can be approximated as 3 X 10^8 lambda = 3.10 X 10^14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the one ?i thought it was velocity of a wave = frequency x wavelength

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to use the given formula: \[f=\frac{ v }{ \lambda }\], where f is frequency, v is speed and lambda is wavelength.
