CH3 is Tetrahedral (Bent) CO2 is Trigonal planar?
Not necessarily like that. When you are asked to do VSEPR, you have to mention the shape and angle around main elements. That is why I made that description for the first carbon and the second carbon. The description bases on the number of electron dense region ( number of bonds; if a bond in double or triple, consider as 1 electron dense region). The C from CH3 binds with the second C and it has 4 electron dense regions, that is why is TETRAhedral and the second carbon has 3 different electron dense region, hence that is why it is TRIgonal.
