Mehek (mehek14):
ok so now you have \(\dfrac{4}{x-3}=-3\)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you get that.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
then add 3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so then the 3's crosss out?
OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
no, what u need to do next is to multiply by (x-3) on both the left and right hand side of
\[\frac{ 4 }{ x-3 }=-3\]
so that the bottom part will cross out.

and you get 4/x
OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
Not really...on the left hand side...
\[\frac{ 4 }{ x-3 }\times \frac{ x-3 }{ x-3 }\]
what will u get?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
once you multiply the (x-3) over you end up with 4=(-3)(x--3), right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes.
OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
@atreyu6s3x6 that is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):
so wouldnt the right side cancel?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
alright well then distribute the -3 through the equation and no not yet
OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
no, there is nothing to cancel on the right:
4=-3(x-3)
u need to distribute -3 to (x-3) and then simplify...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@sdfgsdfgs correct
OpenStudy (anonymous):
okay so 4= 3x+9

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
almost but it should be 4=-3x+9...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes.. so then you simply move the 9 over to the other side
OpenStudy (anonymous):
xo you get -5/3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
almost but it will be a n
egative
OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
no again :(
4=-3x+9
-9 on both left and right....

OpenStudy (anonymous):
negative* sorry
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you subtract 9 on both sides. so 4-9=-5
OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
and then divide by -3 on left n right, u get....
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes. then divide by -3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
in which you end up with?

5/3?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the negative does not cancel. so it is -5/3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
because im getting -5/-3 so would it change to positive?
OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
5/3 is the correct ans :) good job @chealseaa_grinn
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that's what i got before. haha you said it was wrong. xD

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):
@chealseaa_grinn u doing fine. getting it slow is better than getting it wrong ;)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but yea your correct..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
progress is progress no matter what speed thats all that counts
