Acceleration question... A ripe pear falls from a tree and lands on the ground. As it hit the ground, the pear had a speed of 28 feet per second. Approximately how far up in the tree was the pear before it fell? Use the formula below, and assume that the acceleration due to gravity is 32 feet per second squared: s=√2gh (2gh is in the square root.) ___ My options to choose from are: A. 18 feet B. 18 feet (also 18, so not likely to be the answer.) C. 12 feet D. 42 feet ___ Could someone run me through how to do this problem?

s is the speed, 28 g is 32 You have to make the substitutions in the equation they gave and solve for h.

Got it, thanks @peachpi I was confused; I thought 28 might be the acceleration so I didn't know what to do with two of them. :)

you're welcome

I got 12.25 @peachpi ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that's what I got

Alright, then I'll go with option C. It's the closest. Thanks again!

no problem
