Quick QUESTION! A ball is dropped from a certain height. The function below represents the height f(n), in feet, to which the ball bounces at the nth bounce: f(n) = 9(0.7)^n What does the number 0.3 represent?
(A) The ball bounces to 30% of its previous height with each bounce (B) The height at which the ball bounces at the nth bounce is 0.3 feet (C) The ball bounces to 70% of its previous height with each bounce (D) The height from which the ball was dropped at the nth bounce is 0.7 feet
@jim_thompson5910 This is a quick question. Is the answer A?
I don't see 0.3 in f(n) = 9(0.7)^n
Yeah me neither. But could it be A though? Since this is decreasing, it would be by 30%
when n = 0, what is f(n)
9
and when n = 1, f(n) = ??
6.3
so what change happened from 9 to 6.3
70%
you took 70% of 9, yes
right
that means each next height is 70% of the previous height
which is why I'm thinking they meant to say 0.7 instead of 0.3
Oh ok! Thank you! It was probably a typo
yeah if it said "the ball loses 30% of its height each bounce", then it would work
since 100% - 30% = 70%
