SHORT TUTORIAL ON CELL CYCLE AND CELL DIVISION

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\large\tt\color{#ea8237}{CELL~CYCLE}\) • The process by which new cells are formed from pre-existing cells, is called cell division. • During cell division, other processes like cell growth and DNA replication also take place. • All these processes occur in an orderly and cyclic manner constituting the cell cycle. • Cell growth is a continous process but DNA replication occurs only during one particular stage in cell cycle and the replicated DNA or chromosomes are distributed to the daughter cells by a complex series of events during cell division. • All these events are genetically controlled. \(\large\tt\color{#ea8237}{PHASES~OF~CELL~CYCLE:}\) The cell cycle consists of two basic phases : (i)Interphase (ii) M phase or Mitotic phase

\(\normalsize\tt\color{#cb4985}{INTERPHASE}\) • Interphase represents the phase between two successive M-phases. • Interphase is the most active stage in cell cycle, when the cell prepares for the division phase. • It consists of three sub-stages: a) G1 phase or Gap-1 phase b) S-phase or Synthetic phase c) G2 phase or Gap-2 phase \(\normalsize\tt\color{#090e2d}{G1~PHASE:}\) 1) It corrresponds to the interval between mitosis(M phase) and initiation of replication of DNA. 2) The cell grows in size. 3) It is metabolically very active, as there is more synthesis of RNAs and proteins needed for its growth and DNA replication. 4) Certain cells which do not divide further enter an inactive stage calledd quiscent stage or G0 phase. \(\normalsize\tt\color{#090e2d}{S-PHASE:}\) 1) It is the period during which DNA replication takes place and the amount of nucleic acid doubles. 2) In animal cells as DNA replication is going on in the nucleus, centriole stats its duplication in the cytoplasm. \(\normalsize\tt\color{#090e2d}{G2~PHASE:}\) 1) During this phase , more RNAs and proteins are synthesised in preparation for mitosis and also for the growth of cells.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\normalsize\tt\color{#cb4985}{M-PHASE}\) • This phase represents the phase when the actual cell division/mitosis occurs. • This is the phase when the replicated DNA is disributed to the daughter nuclei. • M-phase involves two stages:  KARYOKINESIS –It corresponds to the separation of the daughter chromosomes into two daughter nuclei,i.e., it is the process of division of nucleus  CYTOKINESIS- It corresponds to the division of cytoplasm and the separation of the two daughter nuclei into two daughter cells.

i'll add mitosis and meiosis too ! :D and this is my first tutorial so i just started learning LaTex, i'll try making it more presentable from next time
