MEDAL IF YOU SOLVE!!!! Simplify the expression 5x − (3x^2 + 9x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UsukiDoll @

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

1. distribute the negative on the entire right hand side of the equation 2. combine like terms and simplify

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

-(3x^2+9x) distribute the negative so what's (-1)(3x^2) and what's (-1)(9x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-9x

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

true what about (-1)(3x^2) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3x^2

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

yes so now we have \[5x-3x^2-9x\]

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

we just have to combine like terms I see a 5x-9x .. since both have x only they can be combinable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it said to simplify the answers are a. -3x^2 − 4x b -3x^2 + 14x c 3x^2 − 4x d 3x2 + 14x

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

yeah we're on the right track just got to solve 5x-9x I'll factor the x out to make it easier to solve x(5-9) so what's 5-9?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

hint: answer is going to be negative for 5-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that means we can mark out B and D

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

yes so now we have x(-4) which is -4x -3x^2-4x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay thanks heres medal

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

:) and here's a medal for attempting to solve the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yayyy my first medal!! ty
