OpenStudy (summersnow8):

V = π r^2 h Where: r = 61.0 m, h = 125.3 m Find: V = ? -- 1464740.243 *Be sure to follow the rules for adding and multiplying measurements.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ooo the rules.. oh boy.. I'm trying to remember those..

zepdrix (zepdrix):

When you multiply, you end up with the lower amount of decimals.... I think? Bah I better look it up

OpenStudy (summersnow8):

@zepdrix Round the result to the same number of significant digits as the measurement with the least number of significant digits but i can't seem to get the right answer

OpenStudy (summersnow8):

yeah that = 1464740.243

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Well, let's make sure we're `rounding between each step`, not just multiplying it all together :O

zepdrix (zepdrix):

@phi just take over please -_- my brain todays

OpenStudy (phi):

It sounds like you should round 1464740.243 to 1460000.

OpenStudy (summersnow8):

okay, ill try that

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ya try that :) But I think that if we're following the rules each step of the way, we end up with a slightly larger answer. \[\Large\rm V= \color{green}{3.14} (\color{orangered}{61.0m})^2(\color{royalblue}{125.3m})\]Squaring, then rounding to 3 digits gives us,\[\Large\rm V= \color{green}{3.14} (3720m^2)(\color{royalblue}{125.3m})\]Multiplying the pi, then rounding again gives,\[\Large\rm V= 11700m^2(\color{royalblue}{125.3m})\]Then doing our last multiplication step, before rounding should give us,\[\Large\rm V= 1466010m^3\]So I think we actually want to round UP in this case, ya?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

1470000 :d
