Mark and Nancy are making punch for a party and are using two types of juice: pineapple and papaya. The total number of quarts must be more than 9 but less than 15. They should use at least 4 quarts of each type. We want to find out how many quarts of each juice they should buy. First graph the system below and describe the shape of the solution area. x + y ≥ 9; x + y ≤ 15; x ≥ 4; y ≥ 4

ok, well lets start here: x is greater than 4 find where x = 4 everything to the right of that should be shaded have a look at the attachment for reference

well... now we'd look at where y is greater than 4 and draw it on the same graph and see where the 2 overlap have a look at the attached for reference

next, graph on the same plane, where x + y >or = to 9 eg x = 0, y = 9, x = 1, y =8, x = 2, y = 7... etc... connect these points and shade everything to the right... kinda similar to the attached ;)

ok, now u try @sistrunk23 the last inequality is x + y is less than 15 so draw that line on the same graph you've been doing, and as it's LESS THAN... shade everything to the left of that line....

ok well|dw:1435926693841:dw| here's a graph... so solve the below 2 point for me: now if x + y = 15 then if x = 0, y = ???

awww... gone... kk if u come back, it's a straight line, so 1 point is (0 , 15) and another is (15, 0) so draw those 2 points on the graph, and its LESS THAN, so shade everything to the left should end up looking something like the attached

the circled bit is where everything overlaps, so yeah... its the section that follows all the rules, so it's what u want

so we were looking for intercepts x-intercept - set y =0 y-intercept - set x =0
