OpenStudy (bruno102):

If a reaction experiences a large decrease in entropy and absorbs a large amount of heat, the reaction will be spontaneous. True False <--- my answer

OpenStudy (bruno102):

Am I correct?

OpenStudy (photon336):

Decrease in entropy means that it's becoming more ordered. Let's see how this affects our reaction. delta G = delta H -Tdela S If entropy change is negative then -(-t delta S will be positive.

OpenStudy (photon336):

If a reaction absorbs heat that means that it's Delta H is positive.

OpenStudy (photon336):

Putting this all together we have Delta H positive T delta S positive Then this means delta G is positive So yes you're right it's not spontaneous.

OpenStudy (bruno102):

Thanks again :)

OpenStudy (photon336):

You see how I thought that through right?

OpenStudy (bruno102):

Yes, I do, thanks
