Please help :) State the degree: 5r^2s^3t^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 3 or 4? Because it's a product and I read that that makes it 3 not 4

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

it's not 3 or 4 to find the degree, add the exponents together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What? I thought it was the highest degree

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

if we have multiple terms added or subtracted, then yes, it would be the highest degree but we only have one term here, so we add the exponents together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh so is it 9?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

right! you can review the rules for degrees here http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/degree-expression.html
