jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
neither do I, but luckily we don't need to know the biology behind the problem
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so there are 264+111 = 375 people who have either A-positive or Rh-negative blood types
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
this is out of 740 people total (bottom right corner)
We then divide
P(A-positive OR Rh-negative) = (# of people who have A-positive or Rh-negative)/(# total)
P(A-positive OR Rh-negative) = (375)/(740)
P(A-positive OR Rh-negative) = 0.50675675675676
P(A-positive OR Rh-negative) = 0.507
OpenStudy (briana.img):
Aaaaah okay thank you!! Makes much more sense now
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
I'm glad it's making more sense

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
if two events are `mutually exclusive`, then that means that they CANNOT happen at the same time
example: flipping a heads AND a tails on the same coin
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it's not c because 5 is a prime number
OpenStudy (briana.img):
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's D
OpenStudy (briana.img):
Thanks guys!!

yep 4 is even, so it's impossible to roll an even AND odd number at the same time
