OpenStudy (kmullis6):

Is it 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in other words what is the value of y when x=1 F(1)=??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When the value of the horizontal line is 1, what is the value of the vertical line? that's the answer

OpenStudy (kmullis6):

Being that 1 is on the line, it's 0 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so the horizontal line consists of x values and vertical line consists of y values. Take a look at the final dot. Can u read the coordinates of the last dot?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when x=1 isn't y=-2

OpenStudy (kmullis6):

1, -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

F(1)=-2

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

f(1) is function notation. It is the same as asking, in function f, when x = 1, what is the y-coordinate? Look in your graph. There are 4 points you can see. Look for the point that has 1 as its x-coordinate, and read what its y-coordinate is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah both of you are correct so when x=1, y=-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is the same as saying f(1) = -2

OpenStudy (kmullis6):

Oh ok. Sorry, I didn't take enough time to look at it. I thought it was the 1 on the line. /:

That's okay, glad we could help you
