Which graphical display is best used to organize numerical data in ascending order? scatter plot line graph box-and-whisker plot stem-and-leaf plot What is the interquartile range of the box-and-whisker plot shown? 54 45 43 34
@Chumpian
1. scatter plot but not 100% sure
2. idk :(
okay:(
For the first part, it depends on the data, if both x and y are ascending, or x is ascending and y is not, etc. For B, the ends of the boxes are the quartiles (left=1st quartile), right(3rd quartile). Figure out the quartiles, and take the difference.
@math mate for number two i got 29 but its not a choice i dont think i fully understand
for a my assumption was scatter and chumpian agreed so i put that but i still dont get what you ment
@mathmate ****
For first part, you can plot any x-y scatter plot whether they are in ascending order or not. So order is not relevant. Line graph would require the x-coord. to be ordered, but makes sense only if the plot is some kind of a function and not random data. Box and whisker plot for a one dimensional data from which you need to sort and look for the quartiles, and extremes. Order is useful. Stem and leaf is also for one-dimensional data. Quesion is not clear as to the data is one- or two-dimensional, and the word "best" is not very mathematical, IMHO, so creates confusion. Glad you got the right answer. For part B, examine the box plot and identify the x-coordinates of the two ends of the box, and take the difference. Read very carefully, and if you don't get the right answer, post the two numbers you read!
difference 34?
@mathmate
can you post the two values, please?
32 66
Excellent, 34 is correct!
:0 thank you
You're welcome! :)
