The first term of a geometric sequence is –2 and the common ratio is -1/4. What are the next three terms of the sequence?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand the rules of a sequence, but a geometric one?... i dont know...

OpenStudy (0_0youscareme):

http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algtrig/atp2/geoseq.htm read threw that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, thx much ^.^

OpenStudy (0_0youscareme):

lol np

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

for a geometric series, multiply each term by the common ratio to get to the next term so, if the first term is (-2) and the common ratio is (-1/4), the second term is (-2)*(-1/4) and the third term is (-2)*(-1/4)*(-1/4) and so on...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, wow thx guys ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, its...1/2...-1/8....and 1/32 ...Thank you guys again

OpenStudy (0_0youscareme):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea i guess it was pretty simple >.< xD

OpenStudy (0_0youscareme):

for a geometric sequence you can use the equation y=a1*(r)^(n-1) where a1 is the first term and r is the rate and n is nth term that you want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm, lol nice, I actually needed that for the next question I am on xD

OpenStudy (0_0youscareme):

lol xD
