A pool company is creating an image for a client that has the look of a 3-D image for a family pool and a similar dog pool. Find the value of b in the drawing below:

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

hello :)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

since the pools are similar each to other, then we can write these proportions: \[\Large \begin{gathered} 14:7 = 22:b \hfill \\ \hfill \\ 14:7 = 16:c \hfill \\ \hfill \\ 14:7 = a:9 \hfill \\ \end{gathered} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that is the whole answer sir,?

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

@Michele_Laino what does the "Q" untop of your score mean?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

it means that I am a Qualified Helper of OpenStudy

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

Wow, nice :)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

thanks! :)

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

@idontmind 22/b=14/7

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

please, you have to solve the first proportion in order to find the value of b

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

ill leave this to you :)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

ok! :)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

If I apply the fundamental property of proportions, I can write: \[\Large b = \frac{{22 \times 7}}{{14}} = ...?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the proportion 7

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

what is: \[\Large b = \frac{{22 \times 7}}{{14}} = ...?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

00.9

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

hint: \[\Large b = \frac{{22 \times 7}}{{14}} = \frac{{154}}{{14}} = ...?\]

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

what is 154: 14 =...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 9 @Michele_Laino I got disconnected sorry

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

hint: 154:14 = 11 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because of 22 right?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

yes!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

so, we have: b=11

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

Just wondering why did you get b=22*7/14 instead of 22*87/14b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so is that partially the answer

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

since the pool for dog is scaled by a factor 1/2 with respect to the other pool, so b has to be 22/2=11

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

That is the answer idontmind :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OOOOOOOOO I GET IT!!!! THANKS!!!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

:)
