OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

If sin(x)=1/2 what is cos(x) and tan(x)?

OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

@vera_ewing

OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

@carolinar7

OpenStudy (carolinar7):

WHt?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

i guess you are supposed to figure you are in quadrant 1, otherwise you cannot know for certain what cosine or tangent is

OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

yes, that's all i have learned lol

OpenStudy (misty1212):

what you need is a good trig cheat sheet look below

OpenStudy (misty1212):

sine is the second coordinate look at the unit circle on the last page of the cheat sheet find the point where the second coordinate is \(\frac{1}{2}\) the cosine is the first coordinate of that point

OpenStudy (misty1212):

let me know when you see it

OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

ok I found it so its, √3/2? which must mean that tan is 1/√3?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

yes and yes

OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

although if you have answer choices, the tangent might be called \(\frac{\sqrt3}{3}\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

same thing, just with the denominator rationalized

OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

no there aren't any

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[\color\magenta\heartsuit\]

OpenStudy (misty1212):

btw hold on to that cheat sheet, it may come in handy

OpenStudy (laughoutloud):

TY!!!
