on a real number line point X has the coordinates of -2 and point y has the coordinates of 6 what is the line segment of XY

given the right trianglebelow how many units is AC|dw:1438780818865:dw|
it's a right triangle so you can apply Pythagorean theorem \[a^2+b^2=c^2\]
btw its one of special triangle 5,4,? ;P
the first way is to use pythagorean theorem the 2nd way (really the first way) is to memorize some right triangle sides: 3,4, 5 and 5,12,13 are the sides of a right triangle. If you memorize these you will be faster.
see i know the threoum like its nothing
and if you really want to get good, notice that a multiple (multiply each side by the same number) is also a right triangle for example if we multiply each side by 2: 6,8,10 is a right triangle check it: 6*6+8*8= 36+64= 100 and 100 is 10*10
so in my choices that i have A 1 B SQRT 5 C 3 AND D 9
it would be SQRT of 5
btw forgot the tell you c is the longest leg of right triangle (hypotenuse )
first, the leg is *always* shorter than the hypotenuse. so the number is less than 5 if you do not memorize 3,4,5 (which number is missing in your picture?) then you solve it this way x*x + 4*4= 5*5 x^2 +16= 25 add -16 to both sides x^2 +16-16= 25-16 simplify x^2 = 9 find the square root of 9
3
ohhh i see now a lil it would be c
now go back and think what you did wrong, and try to remember how to get the correct answer.
ok thx @phi
jose has 7 blue and 5 white shirts in one drawer in his dresser he is running late so whats the probability of pulling a white shirt randomly
probability is number of ways to "win" divided by the total number of choices
im thinking its 7:5 but sometimes i get it backwards
probability is between 0 (no chance) to 1 (100% going to happen) so the fraction always has a smaller number up top and a bigger number in the bottom (unless it is 100% which would mean top and bottom are the same number)
How many shirts does he have? how many are "winners" (i.e. white, the color we want) ?
sooo 5:7
ohh my b
7 blue 5 white
yes and that adds up to 12 now write the fraction: number of ways to win divided by the total number of shirts
5:12?
yes, though I would write it 5/12 the 5:12 typically means "odds" like in horse racing. Odds are more complicated then probabilty
ight thx
imma close this one then reopen a new question ok @phi thx
