Given the parent functions f(x) = 5x − 1 and g(x) = 3^x − 9, what is g(x) − f(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\(g(x)-f(x) = 3^x-9-(5x-1)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so \[3^x-5x-10 \] !!!! I don't get this!!!!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

I just took \(g(x) \) and subtracted \(f(x)\). You just need to simplify.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

no not -10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

combine -1 and -9 to get -10 :( ????

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\(3^x-9-(5x-1)=3^x-9-5x-(-1)=3^x-9-5x+1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh a neg and a neg make a pos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha me so stupid lmao

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

This is why I used parenthesis in my first post. \[g(x)-f(x) = 3^x-9-(5x-1)\] Always use parentheses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

<3 lmao

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

parentheses*
