@Lady.Liv1776 @Lilmike234 @mathstudent55 anyone please help

OpenStudy (phi):

y-intercept is where the line crosses the y-axis (the vertical axis) any idea where the line crosses the y-axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

about 3

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. so 3 matches after how much practice ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0 practice

OpenStudy (phi):

so that is the answer to part A (if you make that into a coherent thought)

OpenStudy (phi):

if they don't practice, we expect them to win only about 3 matches.

OpenStudy (phi):

for part B you want y = mx + b we need m and b from part A we know b to find m (the slope) look at x=4 (get its y value) and at x= 7 (ditto) what two points do you read off the line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10 and 16

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, those are the y values. you want to write the two points as (4,10) and (7,16) now find the slope which is change in y divided by change in x can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 1/2

OpenStudy (phi):

what is the change in y ?

OpenStudy (phi):

in other words, what is 16- 10 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3?

OpenStudy (phi):

remember y is the 2nd number in each pair (or the height of the point above the x-axis) change in x is 7-4 = 3 so the slope is 6/3 = 2 ok?

OpenStudy (phi):

your equation is y= 2x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok that makes sense. sorry if I seemed dumb there I just didn't remember that y is the second number in each pair

OpenStudy (phi):

the last part is to "put in" 13 for x in the equation and then calculate y

OpenStudy (phi):

did you do y = 2*13+3 ? for the last part. you get 29 matches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I did do that. thank you soooo much @phi i really appreciate it..

OpenStudy (phi):

for part B, they ask what the number of matches you will win if you practice 13 months that is why we use x=13
