OpenStudy (republican31):

Tell whether the following is a function. If not explain why. {(-3, 5), (0, 7), (0, 6), (4, 1)}. It's not a function, right? I don't see any possible pattern.

Nnesha (nnesha):

if x values repeats then relation is not a function

Nnesha (nnesha):

and yes right

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

it's not a function because we have 0 twice in the domain.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

[ -3 0 0 4] uh oh . I see 0 twice... not a function :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To be a function each x value must have a unique y value, so it isnt a function because x=0 has 2 y-values

OpenStudy (republican31):

Alright thank you! I didn't think that it was, and I forgot the rule about x values not being repeated. And it's getting late and I've been doing math all day, excuses excuses... Thank you @UsukiDoll for putting it into terms that will work in the assignment also. Just curious I want to make sure, it doesn't matter if y values repeat, right?

Nnesha (nnesha):

no just ignore the y values

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

the x values matter more if we're given a problem like this.

OpenStudy (republican31):

Alright thank you all!
