OpenStudy (sebaxtiangb):

need some help Simplify (3x − 5) − (4x + 6).

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Pretend that there is a one right after the minus sign. \[3x - 5 - 1(4x + 6)\] Now what you would do is distribute the negative one to 4x and 6. \[3x - 5 -4x -6\]

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Hopefully now you can combine the like terms with the second expression I have set up for you after simplifying.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Do you know how you would simplify this: \[3x - 5 - 4x -6\]

OpenStudy (sebaxtiangb):

that would be -x - 1

OpenStudy (sebaxtiangb):

sorry -x - 11

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Yes correct!

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Do you now understand how to solve expressions like this henceforth?

OpenStudy (sebaxtiangb):

ye thanks :D

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

No problem :)
