why there are two different charges i.e. positive (proton) and negative(electron) ?
because there just are, no real reason exists
Well, you could give a limited explanation about the charges of protons and electrons from the quark level. But if you are referring to why proton has a positive charge and electron has a negative charge well there is no reason they are arbitrary
Sure, i guess you can say that a proton has 2 up quarks (each with charge \(+\dfrac{2}{3}e\)) and a down quark (with charge \(-\dfrac{1}{3}e\)), and that an electron is a lepton with a -1e charge... but that just raises other questions, like "why do quarks have charges?" Ya it just keeps adding more questions then answers
Not only that, but it addresses why "why" questions are not always suitable questions.
