A student is trying to solve the system of two equations given below: Equation P: y + z = 6 Equation Q: 3y + 4z = 1 Which of these is a possible step used in eliminating the y-term? (y + z = 6) ⋅ 4 (3y + 4z = 1) ⋅ 4 (y + z = 6) ⋅ −3 (3y + 4z = 1) ⋅ 3

@sleepyjess

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

We want to be able to multiply the first equation by something that will cancel out y. So if we have 3y on one equation, do we want -3y or 3y to cancel it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3y to cancle out 3y

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yes! So to get -3y, would you multiply by -3 or 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

y*3 = 3y, we want -3y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok ,ok i got it its C

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

yep :)
