I really need help with this Geometry question! I am looking for an explanation not an answer. >2.The distance from A to B is 143 mi. , and from B to C on another road, 57 mi. The distance from A to D is 143 mi., and from D to E on another road is 57 mi. Compare the distance from A to C by way of B with the distance from A to E by way of D. This is exactly how the book words it, which really confuses me. Just looking for someone to help me. First time using Open study- Thank you!

It says draw this out to complete the problem but this didnt help me understand either.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did they give a picture with this with the locations of A, B, C, D, and E?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope they told me to draw it out, and just gave me the lengths. I typed exactly what the question said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess it doesn't really matter where they are. I just kind of placed them randomly |dw:1440273759221:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A to C by way of B would be AB + BC = 143 + 57 make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I'm looking it over trying to understand, 1 second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay do 'by way of' means another road and it will be in the middle ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so* not do. whoops. sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"by way of" basically means passing or going through.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay, thank you! So why didn't you put the point in alphabetized order?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I'm just staring my Geom class and I will give you medal!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just kind of started drawing with A and went from there. They gave distances from A to B and from A to D so I knew both B and D had to connect to A. C and E could be anywhere

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm okay, so now I need to 'compare' which means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says to compare A to C and to compare A to E

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once you have the distances, say whether they're equal, or which one is less or mor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what do I do from here?- I'm saying. Add the miles ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. Add from A to C. then add from A to E

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which is exactly the same sum. so the sum of these is 200?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, so you'd just say that the distances are equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay!!! THANK YOU so much. means tons. I am just really struggling with this class. thank you sir!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're welcome
