omg first time I have ever been on the call list for help!!! lol
Okay.. Can you help me out?
what is your question? or what kind of help are you asking for?
Im looking for a second pair of eyes to look over what I have so far and to tell me what I should write for the introduction, thesis statement (which im bad at) and the conclusion.
Ive answered the questions in the three body paragraphs but I have no clue what to write in the introduction.
what is the name of the course, and what is it about?
Well your thesis should really be a subtle introduction including your main points about your topic. So first, what are your main points?
Western Humanities:Ancient to Renaissance. Ive only just started the course and read the first chapter. Its a humanities class and the first chapter was about houses and art (drawing on cave walls) from BCE
Yes I know that @Lady.Liv1776 thats whats causing me to have a hard time. I dont know what my main points are. Ive never done an essay that has me answering questions like this :/
the BCE drives me nuts. the intro could be just : I am taking my first Humanities course, and what have I learned so far... the thesis is "impressions of a neophyte just learning about Mankind." something like that. a conclusion could be a simple statement that there is much to learn...
Okay I follow you on the introduction and conclusion.. The thesis not so much
what are your 3 paragraphs about? basically, your thoughts on studying your course, and a little about why it might be good. a "thesis" statement tries to summarize your writings into one major idea (theme). in this case, what you think about studying Humanities.
If you mention that in the intro paragraph, the reader will know what to expect. and because you are a beginner, it would be nice to mention that.
My body paragraphs are my basically my feelings and thoughts on the course- When you signed up for this course, what did you imagine that you would be studying? Were you interested in humanities before you took this course? Now that you have had a chance to look over the course, and study the first chapter, what are your thoughts? Why do you think Humanities courses are required? Um okay? So say in the intro that im new to humanities and have a lot to learn and possibly say one ot two things that I learned in chapter 1? And in the thesis say what I think humanities is and studying it.. Is that what your saying?
I thought in the thesis I would rephrase the questions and make it into one sentence... And give a brief answer to them.
that would be an elaboration on the thesis statement. that is what the body of your writing does already.
Um okay?? O.o Can you give me an example for a thesis on this essay?
the thesis would be this my feelings and thoughts on the course but maybe add a little more info. example: change course to "my first course in Humanities" or change feelings to "anxiety and excitement"
Well your thesis statement is what you should create before even going into body paragraphs. The body paragraphs are basically proving off the thesis statement or going more in depth into the topic.
Okay I understand that @phi
So if i were to make a statement like, "The sky is blue" I'd go in depth as to why the sky is blue and what makes it blue and the scientific facts and blah blah blah. What type of essay are you writing?
Yeah or do what phi says. lml cx
I tried writing the intro and thesis first but couldn't figure out what to say so I skipped it and answered the questions in the bodies first. Um im not sure what type of essay this is.
Hmmm. Well how i was taught to form a thesis statement is ask a question and the answer to that question is going to be your thesis statement, (you don't include the question in the essay though) So whatever you're trying to state you'd ask a question to correlate with that and then just include thesis statement. That's what i'd do.
Yes that how I usually do it and give my personal opinion on whatever im writing about. But for this one I answer questions about the course like what did you imagine that you would be studying? Were you interested in humanities before you took this course? I typed this up-- My personal feelings and thoughts on this particular course can be classified as excitement mixed with nervousness, I say this because this is my first Humanities course and im worried about not doing well, so far I am enjoying the course and everything it has to offer. Hows that??? :/
Its good. But i'd make sure that you're actually answering the questions though rather than just address them :)
that is the right idea. But I would tweak it, because in your body paragraphs, you don't specifically talk about being worried, or enjoying it. I would either add some sentences in the body about what you are worried about or enjoying or take that out and say this is my first Humanities course and I am still understanding what it is all about.... that leads into your first paragraph.
Okay ill try that.. Thank you @Teddyiswatshecallsme @phi
You're welcome.
